Born in Cork, Ken holds BMus and Masters degrees from the Cork School of Music. Having finished his studies in Cork Ken went on to Trinity College of Music London where he received a scholarship to study with them renowned Irish saxophonist Prof. Gerard McChrystal. Throughout his career, Ken has been fortunate to study with some of the world’s finest instrumentalists in both jazz and classical fields. These include Kenneth Edge, Tim Garland, Bob Berg, Tim Price and many more. He was a founder member of the acclaimed CSM Jazz Big Band, lead his own jazz quartets, and featured on numerous recordings with local and national artists. Ken has been involved in countless productions at the Cork Opera House and Everyman Palace Theatre as a session player. An award winning band conductor Ken has lead bands to regional and National titles. As an orchestral instrumentalist he has performed with the Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra, Cork Youth Orchestra,Cork Concert Orchestra and more. As a wind band instrumentalist he has played with the Irish Youth wind Ensemble, Irish Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Cork School of Music Concert Band & Wind Ensemble and the Cork Philharmonic Winds with whom he performed Michael Torke’s Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Wind Orchestra in 2017. Ken lectures in Saxophone performance, tutors saxophone quartets and jazz ensembles, jazz improvisation, and clarinet performance.
