Union is an adult choir open to all performers who are interested in developing their vocal skills and musicianship through legit and contemporary musical theatre repertoire.
The group meets once a week on a Tuesday evening in the School of Music and prepares both solo and ensemble numbers for an informal concert at the end of the semester. Our repertoire is wide and varied, everything from Rodgers and Hammerstein right through to Sondheim and newly-written pieces from Broadway and the West End. Our membership is equally varied in age and experience – some members are just getting back into singing while others have a bit more experience treading the boards.
The group is directed by Tom Doyle, a highly sought-after musical director and pianist in Cork City and its environs, who currently lectures in conducting and music direction at the CIT Cork School of Music.
Membership is open to all (there’s no need to be a current student or graduate of CIT) and all that’s expected from our members is a love for musical theatre and singing!
And why the name ‘Union’? Asides from being a union of people, there’s the union of music and drama, and the fact that the School of Music is built on Union Quay!
