Wind and percussion players normally progress through the Elementary Wind Band, Intermediate Concert Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and those interested can also apply to take part in the Junior Jazz Band and the CSM Jazz Big Band. External applicants are welcome in all groups and will be accommodated if vacancies allow (please contact the Head of Orchestral Studies).
Junior Children's Chorus
The Junior Children’s Chorus caters for the 7- to 12-year old age group taking their first steps, learning to breathe well and sing true in pitch on a range of attractive songs. Membership of the choir is open to all children who enjoy singing including external applicants. No previous experience is required. All applicants will be auditioned.
Senior Children's Chorus
The Senior Children’s Chorus follows from the Junior Children’s Chorus and gives children a thorough foundation in the basics of a healthy and free use of the voice, as well as an introduction to 2-part singing, on a wide repertoire of
lively and enjoyable songs. All applicants will be auditioned.
The Fleischmann Choir is a large, mixed‑voice choir for adults, which rehearses weekly and sings the large‑scale repertory for mixed choir and orchestra. All applicants will be auditioned.
Union is a mixed-voice chorus for those with an interest in musical theatre. This group meets once weekly. No previous experience is necessary.
String students of the School will be allocated to an appropriate orchestra depending on their level of proficiency. Places in the Preparatory, Junior and Intermediate Orchestras are limited to students who are enrolled in the CSM. Students who are enrolled in Musicianship but who take instrumental lessons outside of the School will be asked to audition. Senior and CSM Symphony Orchestra applicants may be asked to audition and will only be accepted if vacancies exist (please contact the Head of Orchestral Studies).
