Lecturer in Piano and Music Education
Gemma O’Herlihy began learning the piano with her mother. She studied performance at the Cork School of Music, the Vienna Conservatoire in Austria and Maynooth University and has performed in Europe and Australasia. To further her teaching experience, she undertook PGCE secondary music education at Leeds University UK and taught in Leeds, Bradford and Dublin. Currently, she teaches individual and group piano at the MTU Cork School of Music. Her doctoral research at University College London was on broadening beginner pianists’ musicianship in the piano lab by addressing the lack of aural skills, amidst deviating from the traditional notation-based approach.
