Dr. Susan O'Regan

Dr. Susan O'Regan

Lecturer in Music History, Music Education, Musicianship Skills, Research Supervisor

Following graduation from UCC with BMus and MA degrees, Susan performed extensively as a harpsichord continuo player and as a piano accompanist. An interest in historical performance practice and in the social history of music led to an investigation of concert history in Cork city, which was the subject of her doctoral dissertation. Subsequent research into the broader social history of music in Cork city during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries is the topic of a forthcoming book, which features music in the city’s theatres, churches, amateur musical societies, the music profession and music education, including the establishment of the Cork School of Music in 1878. Her other research interests include music in nineteenth-century Ireland, and the history, policy and curriculum of music education in Ireland.
