CSM Jazz Big Band Schools Concerts

In a one-hour concert pitched specifically at school-going music students, Cormac McCarthy and the Cork School of Music Jazz Big Band will demonstrate a range of musical styles, from swing to funk to fusion - including a unique collaboration between Irish traditional music and contemporary big band. Students will see the anatomy of an ensemble: the rhythm section - backbone of all pop, rock and blues styles; brass - trumpets, trombones and saxes - coolest of all instruments! also a top-notch vocalist, proficient in everything from jazz to Irish Traditional and the great contemporary vocalists such as Joni Mitchell and Beyoncé Improvisation, riffing, twelve-bar blues, modern counterpoint, walking bass, and groove - these are just some of the musical concepts explored. The programme includes a jazz take on everything from sean- nós through REM to Bohemian Rhapsody.
