BMus Applicant 2022 Entrance Assessment Submission

 

Candidates for entry to the BMus in Sept 2022 will send us a video of you performing and complete a short written paper at home.
 

You can start working on your videos right away and details of content requirements can be found below. Due to the size of the audition videos, we cannot accept these directly. Please upload your video to a service such as YouTube or Vimeo and send the links as described below. You can do this at any time and have them uploaded to YouTube/Vimeo ready for submitting later.

Submit your audition link(s) and your personal statement via the online form below by Saturday 9th April 2022.

 

The written paper will be sent to you on Sunday 10th April 2022 at 9am. You are required to print off this paper, complete it and return it to us by 5pm the same day. Take a photograph of your completed exam paper when you have finished.

Creating your Audition Video

• Smartphone video is fine provided both the video and audio are of a reasonable quality.
   
• All candidates should begin their videos by speaking - to the camera - their full names and CAO numbers
   
• Before performing each piece the candidate should speak again to camera introducing the work with a title and composer (if known)
   
• Each candidate should submit 8 to 10 minutes of video - approximately - quality trumps quantity.
   
• Classical Music candidates should present 2 contrasting pieces followed by major and minor scales and arpeggios on 2 key centres of own choice
   
• Classical Singers should present 3 to 4 songs in classical style - one may be a folk song
   
• Traditional Irish Music candidates should present 4 contrasting pieces of which one should be a slow air and one a reel
   
• Jazz candidates should present  3 contrasting pieces showing a variety of styles and some improvisation.

Sample Exam Paper

A sample exam paper can be found here. There will only be written analysis and harmony questions - no aural element.

 

This paper will be sent to you at 9am on Sunday 10th April. You will print this off, complete it, and return a photo to us by 5pm the same day. Don't forget that your performance audition links should also be submitted by this date.
